Schlaffer Still Alive After First Day Of NCAA
March 16, 2006 OKLAHOMA CITY - Maryland sophomore Andrew Schlaffer is still alive at the 2006 NCAA Wrestling Tournament after going 1-1 on the first day. Schlaffer fell in the opening round to second-seeded Tyler Eustice of Iowa, but defeated Ryan Hurley in the consolation bracket. Schlaffer gave Eustice all he could handle in his first bout of the day. Schlaffer trailed by only a point late in the third period, but Eustice managed to register a late take down to secure the 5-3 victory. Schlaffer bounced back in his second match of the day, handily defeating Hurley 10-3.
He will now take on 12th-seeded Matt Dragon of Penn on Friday. The two met earlier this season with Dragon coming away with a 6-1 victory back in early January.
