ST. LOUIS, Mo. - NC State's two participants in the NCAA Wrestling Championships both lost their first-round matches Thursday, with one moving to the consolation round and the other dropping out of the tournament due to an injury default.

Junior 174-pounder Kevin Gabrielson badly injured a knee just moments into his match against Oregon State's Jeremy Larson and had to default. Gabrielson is out of the double-elimination tournament because of the default. He finished his season with a 20-9 record. Senior 149-pounder Aex Hernandez, meanwhile, dropped an 11-0 major decision to No. 2-ranked Phillip Sampson of Army and fell into the consolation rounds. The loss dropped Hernandez to 16-8.
