Tar Heel Wrestlers Finish First Day At NCAA Tournament
March 16, 2001 The University of North Carolina wrestling team has two wrestlers left competing after one day of competition at the NCAA Tournament in Iowa City, Iowa. Corey Bell went 1-1 and JohnMark Bentley went 0-1 on Thursday, the opening day of competition, and both will be back on the mat for UNC Friday morning. Bell (174 pounds) lost a first round match to Mike Feeney of Eastern Michigan, 5-1, but rebounded to take a 8-1 decision over Mike Regner of The Citadel in the first wrestleback. Bell faces Luke Moore of Ohio University Friday in the second wrestleback. Bentley (149 pounds) lost a 7-0 decision to Jared Frayer of Oklahoma in the second round and will wrestle Malik Elliott of Boston University in the second wrestleback on Friday. Also competing in Iowa City for North Carolina were Clint Osborn (197 pounds) and Matt Kenny (Hwt.). Each went 0-2 on Thursday.
Action continues all day Friday with the championship finals occurring at 1 p.m. Saturday.
