CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina wrestling team won all 10 individual bouts and breezed by Atlantic Coast Conference rival Maryland, 40-0, Saturday afternoon at Carmichael Auditorium. The Tar Heels, ranked No. 21 in the nation, improved their record to 9-3, 3-0 in the ACC. Maryland fell to 3-3, 1-1.

The Terrapins never led in any of the 10 individual matches and did not record their first takedown until the final match of the afternoon.

By random draw, the match began at heavyweight. UNC freshman Matt Kenny got the Heels off to a quick start with a win by fall over Jule Dulci in 4:46. All-America candidate Chuckie Connor increased Carolina's lead to 11-0 after two matches with a technical fall over Joe Guzzio in 6:50.

Carolina got major decision victories on the afternoon from Josh Cowley (141 lbs.) and Corey Bell (184 lbs.) and a win by fall from Jamie Groudle (174 lbs.). Brad Byers (133 lbs.), JohnMark Bentley (149 lbs.), Pat Cadwallader (157 lbs.), Dan Calhoun (165 lbs.) and Ty Roofner (197 lbs.).

The Tar Heels return to action when they host No. 7 Nebraska on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7:00 p.m. The match will be held in the Smith Center on the UNC campus.
