UNC Wrestlers Host #1 Oklahoma State
January 21, 1999 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina wrestling team, ranked No. 21 in the nation in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll, will host No. 1-ranked Oklahoma State Sunday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. in Carmichael Auditorium. Sunday's match will be the first-ever meeting between Carolina and Oklahoma State. The Cowboys have won 60 straight dual meets, including a 24-14 decision at No. 4 Iowa State Tuesday night. Oklahoma State has amassed an all-time record of 805-81-19 in 80 seasons of wrestling competition and have had 78 wrestlers win 119 individual titles. Two current Cowboys, Teague Moore and Eric Guerrero, won national championships last season.
One of the highlights of Sunday's match should be Moore, a two-time All-America currently ranked No. 1 in the nation at 125 lbs., against Carolina's All-America candidate Chuckie Connor, currently ranked No. 5 at 125. In another battle of ranked individuals, Oklahoma State's Reggie Wright (ranked No. 3 at 149 lbs.) will face UNC's JohnMark Bentley (No. 9 at 149).
