Duke's Dudziak named ACC Wrestler of the Week
Jan. 6, 2009 GREENSBORO, N.C. - Duke junior Konrad Dudziak has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Wrestler of the Week. Dudziak, a 285-pounder from Bayonne, N.J., capped a solid week with a 13-2 major decision victory over Jonah Adams of Anderson during last Saturday's N.C. State Duals. Earlier in the week, Dudziak posted a third-place finish in the Southern Scuffle at Greensboro by winning five of six matches, including two by major decision and one by fall. Dudziak's lone loss in the Southern Scuffle was a 7-4 decision to ninth-ranked Jermail Porter of Kent State. He bounced back by winning an 8-4 decision over seventh-ranked Mitch Monterio of Cal State Bakersfield in the third-place match. Prior to the holiday break, Dudziak advanced to the championship match of the Reno Tournament of Champions as the No. 3 seed on Dec. 18. He defeated second-seeded and No. 9 Scott Steele of Navy for the second time this season. In the title tilt, Dudziak narrowly lost to top-ranked Jared Rosholt of Oklahoma State 5-4.
Dudziak is 3-2 against ranked opponents this season, beating Steele when he was ranked fifth and ninth. Dudziak currently is ranked 11th in the nation and owns a 24-2 overall record. Dudziak battled the No. 1-ranked Rosholt the closest of any opponents this season in dropping the narrow one-point decision.
