Duke's Brent Jorge Captures Pembroke Classic Title

DURHAM, N.C.- For the second consecutive week Duke University freshman wrestler Brent Jorge brought home a tournament title, posting a 6-0 record to take top honors at 149 pounds at the Pembroke Classic. The Blue Devils placed three other wrestlers among the top five at the event.

Senior John Barone garnered runner-up honors at 197 pounds, while redshirt freshman Diego Bencomo took third place in the 184-pound division. Redshirt freshman Andrew Fulk finished fifth at heavyweight for the Blue Devils. Three Duke wrestlers competing unattached also placed.

Jorge cruised through the 149-pound bracket, registering falls in the third round and the quarterfinal. After reaching the semifinal by pinning Nick Rex of Campbell in just 22 seconds, the native of Lakeland, Fla., shut down Brandon Bradley of UNC Pembroke 3-0 to earn a spot in the championship match. Going up against an unattached Joe Mavins, Jorge edged Mavins 5-3 in overtime to remain unbeaten on the year.
