  • Taylor Places Third At NCAA Championships

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Sophomore Hudson Taylor stunned top-seeded and defending national champion Josh Glenn of American and then beat eighth-seeded Craig Brester of Nebraska to take third place in the 197-pound division of the 2008 NCAA Championships on March 22 at Scottrade Center. Taylor was down 5-1 against Glenn and 4-1 versus Brester but came from behind to steal both victories.

Taylor is the first All-American for the Terrapins since Jim Guzzio finished fifth in 1997. His third place finish is the best for a Maryland wrestler since 1992 when Tom Miller took third at 142 pounds and he is just the fifth wrestler in Terps history to finish in the top three at the national championships.

With Taylor's effort, the Terps have now racked up 24.0 points which is good enough for a tie for 21st place heading into the championship finals. Cal Poly sits in 26th but has a finalist and will finish with at least 30 points which means Maryland should finish in a tie for 22nd place. It is the Terps' best finish since 1992 when they placed tied for 21st.
