Adams, Canty and July Wrestle in NCAA Tournament

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - North Carolina wrestlers Mark Canty, Ryan Adams, and Venroy July competed in the first day of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. Mark Canty lost to Bryan Glynn Jr. of Illinois in the 184 pound weight class. The ninth seeded Glynn defeated Canty with a score of 11-3. In his second match of the day Canty lost to Ed Magrys of Eastern Michigan in a close bout with a final score of 4-3. Heavyweight Ryan Adams was defeated by Clinton Walbeck Jr., the eighth seed out of Fresno State, in 3:49. Venroy July was defeated by ninth seeded K.C. Walsh of Boise State by a score of 9-5 at 197 pounds. With two losses junior Mark Canty is eliminated from the tournament. Adams and July will return for action in Friday's competition. Adams will wrestle Russ Davie of Cleveland State and July will face Matt Greenberg of Cornell University.
After one day of wrestling the Tar Heels are tied for 60th in the team standings of this year's NCAA Tournament.
