Loss to Cornell Ousts UNC From Virginia Duals

HAMPTON, Va. - The University of North Carolina wrestling team rallied to win three consecutive matches at the Virginia Duals late Friday and Saturday, but were eliminated from championship round competition Saturday afternoon after a second loss to Cornell in two days.

Carolina dropped its opening match to Cornell Friday, 22-15, but rallied to defeat Edinboro Friday evening, 22-9. The Tar Heels then won their first two matches Saturday, 16-15 over Lock Haven and 22-18 over Boise State, before losing to Cornell a second time and being eliminated.

Championship round matches between Illinois and Michigan and Oregon State and Cornell were set for later Saturday night.

The Tar Heels finish their weekend action at the Virginia Duals with a 3-2 record. The Tar Heels resume their season Wed., Jan. 13 at N.C. State at 7:30 p.m.
