Winston-Salem, N.C. - Wake Forest rising senior Brett Ross picked up his first career ATP point at the Great Barrier Reef $10,000 Futures Tournament in Joplin, Mo., this week.

Ross cruised through three singles matches in the qualifying rounds and upended Kyle Doppelt, 7-5, 6-2, in the main draw Tuesday. In the second round, Ross fell to second-seeded Alexandre Simoni, a Brazilian who is ranked 486th in the world.

Ross, who is traveling with former Deacon standout David Loewenthal, is scheduled to compete in next week's Godfrey (Ill.) Futures event and later this summer at a Futures tournament in Wisconsin.

Ross, a native of Roswell, Ga., led the Deacons in 2005 with 26 singles wins, including an 8-2 record in the ACC and a 12-4 record at the No. 4 singles position.
