![]() Cloer Wins Singles Title, Deye/O'Shea Take Doubles
July 11, 2007 TALLAHASSEE- Chris Cloer (Brevard, NC) made it look easy for most of the tournament, but teammate Michael O'Shea (Boca Raton, Fla.) pushed him to the limit as Cloer captured the 2007 ITA Summer Circuit men's singles title Wednesday afternoon.
The number one seeded Cloer lost the first set to O'Shea 6-4, but rallied to take the second set 6-1 before ending the match 10-4 in the third. Cloer's victory marks the third consecutive year a Seminole has won the Summer Circuit tournament. Current Seminole Sam Chang (Taiwan) won the event in 2006 while former Seminole Jonathas Sucupira was champion in 2005.
However, it wasn't all bad for O'Shea as he teamed with teammate Bobby Deye (Naples, Fla.) to defeat Cloer and Seminole Jason Hood (Columbia, SC) 8-3 Wednesday morning to capture the double's championship.
In the semifinal matches played Wednesday morning Cloer defeated another teammate, Tallahassee native and four seed Andrew Bailey in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). O'Shea's semifinal victory came against Hood (3-6, 6-3, 10-6).
