July 3, 2007 GREENSBORO, N.C. - A pair of All-Americans and three All-Atlantic Coast Conference performers headline the 2007 All-ACC Academic Men's Tennis Team, as announced Tuesday by Commissioner John D. Swofford. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career. This year's team also included eight repeat honorees from 2006. Duke led all ACC schools with five selections on the 21-member team, which included ITA All-Americans Joey Atas (doubles) and David Goulet (doubles). Atas, an All-ACC performer, and Goulet helped the Blue Devils advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament this past season and finished the year at 16-10 overall and 8-3 in ACC action. Virginia Tech received four all-academic nods, which included ITA Northeast Senior Player of the Year and All-ACC member Arvid Puranen and ITA Northeast Rookie of the Year Yoann Re. The pair was instrumental in the Hokies' return to the NCAA for the first time in five years. All-ACC pick Daniel Vallverdu was the lone Miami representative on this year's all-academic squad. The sophomore played at the No. 2 singles flight for the Hurricanes, posting an overall 18-8 mark in singles play. North Carolina landed three picks, while Clemson, Georgia Tech and NCAA semifinalist Virginia each had two student-athletes. Rounding out the academic team with one representative each was Boston College and Maryland.
