CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - University of Virginia men's tennis coach Dick Stockton was victorious today in a first round match in the Gentlemen's 45-and-Over Doubles championships at Wimbledon.

Stockton and his partner, Jaime Fillol of Chile, gained a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ken Rosewall and Fred Stolle.

They will face John Newcombe and Tony Roche in the second round. Newcombe and Roche defeated Frew McMillan and Allan Stone 6-4, 6-3 in the first round today.

Stockton is no stranger to Wimbledon. He reached the semifinals in singles in 1974 and was runner-up in mixed doubles in 1976. Two years ago he teamed with Fillol to win Wimbledon's 45-and-Over Doubles Championship.

Stockton guided Virginia to a 14-10 record this season in his first season as a collegiate head coach.
