CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Virginia men's tennis is ranked No. 10 in the final rankings for the 2004 season, according to College Tennis Online.

The Cavaliers, which received the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Championship, concluded one of the best seasons in school history. UVa won a school record 24 matches and finished with a 24-4 overall record following its first-ever trip to nationals. The Cavaliers advanced to the NCAA's round of 16 with wins over American and Mississippi State.

Individually, sophomore Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif.) is ranked No. 13 in the final singles rankings. He finished the season with a 24-9 singles mark, including 12 wins over players in the NCAA field. Stewart advanced to the second round of the NCAA Singles Draw.

In doubles action, sophomores Nick Meythaler (Owensboro, Ky.) and Rylan Rizza (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) stand No. 24 nationally. The duo, which completed the season with a 20-11 overall record, advanced to the NCAA Doubles Draw.

Additionally, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) named Virginia's Tony Bresky as Mideast Region Assistant Coach of the Year. Freshman Marko Miklo (Bratislava, Slovakia) was named the Mideast Region Freshman of the Year. Miklo, who finished his freshman campaign at 26-6 in singles action, went a perfect 8-0 in ACC play.
