Doug Stewart Named ITA All-American
June 3, 2005 CHARLOTTESVILLE - Third-year Virginia men's tennis player Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif.) was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American Friday as he finished in the top 20 of the final ITA Singles rankings. Stewart earns All-American honors for the second consecutive season, making him the second multi-time All-American in school history, joining Brian Vahaly. Stewart finished the 2005 season ranked No. 19 in the ITA Singles rankings. He was one of five Cavaliers to be ranked in the final top 125. First year Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) finished No. 29 and third-year Rylan Rizza (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) finished No. 39, after each reached the second round of the NCAA Singles Tournament. Darrin Cohen (Lafayette, Calif.) was ranked No. 86 and Marko Miklo (Bratislava, Slovakia) was ranked No. 104. In the final ITA Doubles Rankings, the team of Rizza and Nick Meythaler (Owensboro, Ky.) finished the season ranked No. 26 and Devvarman and Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) were ranked No. 34. The Cavaliers finished the season ranked No. 5 in the final ITA team rankings after a 27-3 record. Virginia won its second consecutive ACC Championship and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
