>King, Smith, and Pedroso Head ITA All-America List

DURHAM, N.C. -- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its 2001 All-America teams with Duke freshman Phillip King and seniors Ramsey Smith and Andres Pedroso each honored.
The selection for King, the 2001 ITA National Rookie of the Year, is the first for the Long Beach, Calif., native, while Smith and Pedroso earned All-America honors for the second consecutive year.
Smith was also selected one of six members of the 2001 USA Tennis Collegiate team selected by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and the ITA. Other members of the team are John Paul Fruttero (California), Bo Hodge (Georgia), Lesley Joseph (Georgia), Phil Metz (Illinois), and Graydon Oliver (Illinois). King of Duke would of been selected, but he is scheduled to be competing in challenger-level events on the USTA Professional Circuit this summer. The USA Tennis Collegiate team will begin play on July 16 in Joplin, Mo.
The ITA also released its final WingspanBank.com Collegiate Tennis Rankings
with the Blue Devils selected eighth nationally. Duke finished the season
with a 24-4 overall record, before falling in the quarterfinals of the NCAA
Championship to Georgia, 4-3. Georgia went on to win the team title.
