CHARLOTTESVILLE - The Virginia men's tennis team made more history this week when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released the final rankings of the season. The Cavaliers finished the season ranked No. 2, the highest final ranking in school history and the highest for an ACC school.

The Cavaliers ended the 2007 campaign with a 30-4 overall record. The 30 wins was a new school record, breaking the previous mark of 27 wins set in 2005. Virginia became the first ACC team to reach the ACC semifinals, where it lost to eventual national champion Georgia. The loss to the Bulldogs snapped a 16-match win streak, which tied the school record.

In the final ITA singles rankings, NCAA champion Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) moved up to the No. 1 spot. He becomes the first Cavalier to be ranked No. 1 nationally in singles. The previous high was No. 2, which two players had achieved (Brian Vahaly in 2000 and Devvarman earlier this season). Two other Cavalier players are also in the final singles rankings. Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) is No. 26, and Dominic Inglot (London, England) is No. 108.

In the final ITA doubles rankings, the team of Devvarman and Huey finish the season ranked No. 2. They were the No. 2 seed for the NCAA Doubles Championship and advanced to the semifinals. Also in the final doubles rankings is the team of Inglot and Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.), which is No. 50.

Devvarman, Huey, Inglot, and Barrick are among the ten Cavaliers that have eligibility remaining for next season.
