UVa's Huntley Montgomery is an All-American for the first time.

CHARLOTTESVILLE - University of Virginia men's tennis players Brian Vahaly (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) and Huntley Montgomery (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) are members of the 2001 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I All-America Team. The two players recently completed their UVa careers.

Vahaly earned All-America honors for the third time after compiling an overall singles record of 40-6 during the 2000-01 season, advancing to the finals of the NCAA Singles Championship and teaming with Montgomery for an outstanding doubles season. His 40 singles victories are a UVa single-season record and he advanced further in the NCAA Singles Championship than any player in UVa history. Vahaly, who was unseeded entering the NCAA singles competition, lost to third-seeded Matias Boeker of Georgia 6-2, 6-4 in the finals.

Vahaly was the ACC Player of the Year and the ACC flight champion at #1 singles each of the last two seasons. He earned All-ACC honors four times.

In doubles competition, Vahaly teamed with Montgomery to compile an overall record of 34-8 during the 2000-01 season. They advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Doubles Championship before losing to Johan Brunstrom and Jon Wallmark of Southern Methodist University 6-1, 6-4. Montgomery and Vahaly were the top-seeded doubles team in the NCAA Championships and advanced further than any doubles team in UVa history.

Montgomery is an All-American for the first time. He compiled an overall singles record of 27-8 during the 2000-01 season, won the ACC flight championship at #2 singles and earned All-ACC honors for the third time in four years.
