Duke's King & Yani Named ITA All-America
May 30, 2003 Duke's Phillip King and Michael Yani were named All-America on Friday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The pair received the honor after earning the number three seed for the NCAA Championship doubles bracket. The All-America citation is the third for King, a junior from Long Beach, Calif. King becomes just the second three-time All-America choice in Duke men's tennis history, joining Chris Pressley who was honored from 1993-95. On the year, King, ranked 28th in the final ITA singles listing, posted records of 15-8 in singles and 21-3 in doubles. Yani picks up his second consecutive All-America honor to join a list of seven total Blue Devils to have accomplished such a feat. The 45th-ranked senior from Honolulu, Hawaii was the ACC Tournament MVP and posted overall ledgers of 21-10 in singles and 20-4 in doubles action.
King and Yani, ranked fourth in the final national doubles chart, helped Duke to a 22-6 overall record and the program's 11th ACC Championship in 2003. The Blue Devils advanced to the NCAA Tournament's Round of 16 before falling to Mississippi.
