King Advances In NCAA Singles Championship Tournament
May 26, 2004 Duke's Phillip King, seeded fifth, advanced into the second round of the 2004 NCAA Singles Championship Tournament with a straight set win over Ken Skupski of LSU on Wednesday afternoon in Tulsa, Okla. King defeated Skupski, 7-6, 6-4, to push his singles record to 19-8 on the year. The senior from Long Beach, Calif., will face Virginia Commonwealth's Pedro Nieto, a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Luis Haddock of Notre Dame, in the second round on Thursday at 11 a.m.
Duke's Ludovic Walter fell in the opening round of singles action to Benjamin Becker of Baylor, 6-3, 6-4. Walter and partner Jason Zimmermann begin play in the doubles bracket on Thursday against Dustin Taylor and Alejandro Tejerina of Tulsa.
