Tripp Phillips of UNC handed USCB's Simon Shinn his first dual match loss of the year.

ATHENS, GA. - University of North Carolina senior men's tennis player Tripp Phillips advanced to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Division I Singles Championship Wednesday by defeating Simon Shinn of the University of California at Santa Barbara 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. The loss was Shinn's first in a dual match this spring.

Phillips advances to the second round where he will play a yet to be determined opponent at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Phillips improved his singles record to 23-5 on the year with Wednesday's victory.
