King Advances In NCAA Men's Tennis Individual Singles Tournament
May 22, 2002 Duke's Phillip King defeated Harvard's Jonathan Chu in three sets on Wednesday to advance to the second round of the singles bracket of the 2002 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships held at the Texas A&M Tennis Center in College Station, Texas. King dropped the opening set in a tie-breaker before winning the second set, 6-0. He then closed out the match with a 6-3 third set and next will face Todd Widom of Miami (Fla.), a three-set winner over Penn State's Jamie Gresh. Michael Yani of Duke suffered an opening round loss to Andy Lever of Texas-Arlington, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
