Duke's Phillip King has been named the 2004 ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Region II Senior Player of the Year announced this week by the national organization.

King, a native of Long Beach, Calif., is one of eight regional honorees for the award, joining David Lingman (Harvard), Michael Kogan (Tulane), Jeremy Wurtzman (Ohio State), Dustin Taylor (Tulsa), William Barker (Rice), Divan Coetsee (New Mexico) and Tobias Clemens (UCLA).

In 2004, King guided Duke to a 20-8 overall record by compiling individual ledgers of 18-8 in singles and 23-3 in doubles. King, who is ranked fifth nationally in singles, will play in the NCAA Singles Championship in Tulsa, Okla., next week as the bracket's number five seed.

The 2001 ACC Rookie of the Year and the 2002 ACC Player of the Year, King is the only player in Duke men's tennis history to earn All-America honors in four seasons. His career records stand at 77-33 in singles and 88-26 in doubles.
