Blue Devils Fall In NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Competition

Duke's Phillip King and Michael Yani both suffered defeats in the opening round of the 2003 NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Tournament on Wednesday afternoon in Athens, Ga.

King dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision to William Barker of Rice while Yani suffered a 7-6, 6-3 loss to Washington's Alex Vlaski. King finishes the season with an overall singles record of 15-8 while Yani closes the year at 21-10.

King and Yani pair together to form the third-seeded doubles team and will open play on Thursday against David Lingman and Mark Riddell of Harvard. King and Yani reached the semifinals of the 2002 NCAA Doubles Championship.
