Tiger Twosome Named ACC Men's Tennis Champions
April 22, 1999 CLEMSON, S.C. - Josh Goffi and Tomasz Boniecki both were named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Flight Champions as announced by the league Office Thursday. Goffi won the number-three singles flight, while Boniecki won the number-four singles flight. Goffi has a 30-16 record overall in singles this season, while Boniecki has a 28-12 record overall in singles play. Over the years, Clemson has won 10 number three titles and five number four championships. The flight champions are determined by round-robin play in the regular season. Both the Clemson men's and women's tennis teams will begin play in their respective ACC Tennis Tournaments in Norcross, Ga. on Friday. The Clemson men's tennis team is seeded third and will face sixth seeded North Carolina at 9:00 a.m. in the 41st Annual ACC Men's Tennis Tournament. Clemson has a 19-10 record overall and defeated the Tar Heels 5-2 on April 10. In the North Carolina contest, Clemson's Head Coach Chuck Kriese won his 500th career match. He is only the 14th coach in college tennis history to win 500 or more career matches. The Clemson women's tennis team is seeded seventh and will face second-seeded Wake Forest at 12:00 noon in the 22nd annual event. The Clemson women's tennis team has 6-14 record overall, and a 2-6 ledger in league play. Both tournaments will be held at the Racquet Club of the South.
