Florida State's Sykut Named ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State senior Maciek Sykut has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after closing the regular season with a pair of singles and a pair of doubles wins against conference opposition.

Maciek Sykut continues to move up the Florida State record books after posting four wins against Maryland and Boston College. His two singles victories – 6-4, 6-2 over Maryland’s Boris Fetbroyt and 6-2, 6-4 over Boston College’s Akash Muppidi – gives Sykut 90 in his career, just two behind all-time FSU leader Jason White.

Sykut also teamed with Drew Bailey for an 8-4 win over Maryalnd’s Fetbroyt and Alex Askanov at No. 1 doubles and an 8-2 win over Boston College’s Thomas Nolan and Alex Skinner.

Sykut’s four overall victories puts the Marathon, Fla., native three behind White for the most combined doubles and singles victories in Florida State history with 168.

The 2009 ACC Men’s Tennis Championship will be held Thursday through Sunday at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. Follow the action at:
