North Carolina's Hernandez named ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina junior Jose Hernandez has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after posting a pair of singles wins over ranked opponents, including the deciding victory over the nation's 11th-ranked player in the Tar Heels' 4-3 win over No. 62 Georgia Tech.
Hernandez posted a pair of singles wins and went 1-1 in doubles as the Tar Heels claimed the win over Georgia Tech and defeated Clemson by a 6-1 score to improve to 6-1 in the ACC. The 43rd-ranked Hernandez defeated 11th-ranked Kevin King of Georgia Tech in a comeback fashion 6-7, 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the win over the Yellow Jackets on Friday. Hernandez led the Tar Heels back from the loss of the doubles point to claim the win and handed King only his third loss of the spring season.
On Sunday, Hernandez swept his doubles and singles matches against Clemson. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native combined with Joey Burkhardt to clinch the doubles point 8-6 for the Heels and then defeated 66th-ranked Yannick Maden of Clemson in three sets.
