GREENSBORO, N.C. - For the second straight week and third time this season, Somdev Devvarman from Virginia has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week. The nation's No. 1 singles player defeated a pair of ranked opponents at the top position in both singles and doubles action, helping top-ranked Virginia remain unbeaten in 2008 last week.
The senior sensation led the Cavaliers to wins over No. 10 Florida State (6-1) and No. 26 Miami (7-0), extending the team's winning streak against ACC competition to 24 straight. In singles, Devvarman posted victories over fourth-ranked Daniel Vallverdu from Miami (6-0, 6-1) and 40th-ranked Jean-Yves Aubone of Florida State (6-1, 6-4). The native from Chennai, India, also paired up with Treat Huey in doubles, as the nation's No. 1 tandem collected wins against FSU's 27th-ranked duo of Jean-Yves Aubone and Clint Bowles (8-2) and Miami's 54th-ranked twosome of David Rosenfeld and Vivek Subramanian.
Florida State wraps up its home schedule this weekend, as the Seminoles entertain Wake Forest at 5 p.m. on Friday and then plays host to NC State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
