GREENSBORO, N.C. - Clint Bowles of Florida State has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after helping No. 17 Florida State defeat a pair of Top 20 opponents on the road last week. It marks the second league honor for Bowles this season.
A native of Tampa, Fla., Bowles continued his impressive rookie campaign as he collected two ranked singles victories at the No. 2 spot. Last Tuesday, he posted a 6-3, 6-3 upset win over 37th-ranked Christoph Muller to give the Seminoles a 3-1 advantage and help FSU rally from behind for an overall 4-3 victory at No. 11 Rice. Bowles, listed at No. 91 in the country, then picked up his second ranked victory on Saturday after securing a 6-2, 6-4 win over 101st-ranked David Rosenfeld of No. 18 Miami.
Bowles, who is ranked 30th in doubles with sophomore Jean-Yves Aubone, went 1-1 at the top flight. The Garnet and Gold tandem knocked off Miami's 15th-ranked duo of Daniel Vallverdu and Carl Sundberg, 8-3, but fell to 16th-ranked Muller and Ralph Knupfer, 8-5, from Rice.
The Seminoles have a tough schedule ahead, as they host three ACC opponents this week. FSU returns to the court against Clemson today at 5 p.m., and will host North Carolina on Friday and then Duke on Sunday.
