![]() Fighting Irish Defeat Seminoles In First Loss Of Season
Feb. 2, 2007 South Bend, IN - Florida State men's tennis ended their winning streak Friday evening as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish defeated the Seminoles 5-2 at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. This is Florida State's first loss of the dual season bringing their overall record to 5-1. Notre Dame took a quick lead in doubles competition as the No. 11 ranked Irish duo Sheeva Parbhu and Ryan Keckley overpowered senior Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) and freshman Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) 8-1 center court. Next to finish was position two where UND's Barry King and Brett Hegeleson defeated senior Jonathas Sucupira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and freshman Bradley Mixson (Miami, Fla.) while Florida State's sophomore team Andrew Bailey (Tallahassee, Fla.) and Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) fell in a tight match to the Irish's Stephen Bass and Andrew Roth giving Notre Dame the first point of the evening match. Singles play continued in favor of the Irish starting on court four with Brett Helgeson defeating FSU's Sucupira 6-3, 6-3 while No. 76 Sykut fell to Ryan Keckley (ND) 6-4, 6-2. Next match to complete came from court one current nationally 14th ranked Stephen Bass defeated Abougzir 6-2, 6-4 while at the same time Florida State's Mixson lost to UND's King 6-4, 6-3 in the number five spot. The only Seminoles to win matches came from court number six as Cloer overcame Notre Dame's Andrew Roth 7-6, 7-5 while freshman Aubone conquered No. 30 Sheeve Parbhu in the number two position for a huge ranked victory. Florida State men's tennis continues their weekend road trip traveling to Columbus, Ohio on Sunday to take on the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes at 12:00 p.m. Results: Singles:
