Jan. 29, 2013
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Wake Forest senior Amogh Prabhakar has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week announced Tuesday. Prabhakar went 6-0 in singles and doubles play last week, highlighted by a win over New Mexico’s 73rd-ranked Samir Iftikhar to help Wake Forest defeat No. 59 New Mexico. He also paired with David Hopkins at No. 1 doubles and defeated the Lobo pair of Jadon Phillips and Conor Berg, 8-4, earlier on Jan. 27. Against No. 48 Alabama, Prabhakar’s victories in singles and doubles were key to helping the Demon Deacons to defeat the Crimson Tide, 4-3. Prabhakar edged Becker O’Shaugnessey, 7-5, 7-6 (6) at No. 2 singles, after he and Hopkins defeated Jarryd Botha and O’Shaugnessey to clinch the doubles point and the early lead for Wake Forest. The Bangalore, India, native owns an eight-match singles win streak and a nine-match doubles win streak, and has yet to lose in a dual match this season. The senior captain has helped lead the Deacs to a 6-0 record, marking their best start to a season since 2005. ACC men’s tennis action resumes on Thursday, Jan. 31.
