Florida State Men's Tennis Overpower Florida Atlantic
Jan. 27, 2007 Tallahassee, Fla. - Florida State men's tennis continued their winning streak Saturday, January 27 as they defeated the Florida Atlantic Owls 5-0. In doubles competition, sophomore combination Andrew Bailey (Tallahassee, Fla.) and Maciek Sykut (Marathon, Fla.) flew through the eight game pro set in the number two spot defeating the Owl's J.P. Bounassar and Mauricio Paiz 8-2. Clinching the doubles victory for the Seminoles came from center court as senior and co-captain Ytai Abougzir (Boca Raton, Fla.) with freshman Jean-Yves Aubone (Miami, Fla.) defeated FAU's Karol Szmurlo and Corey Smith 8-5. Sophomores Ryan Boyajian (Weston, Fla.) and Chris Cloer (Brevard, NC) took on Florida Atlantic's Daniel Vardag and Eddie Majcher leaving the match unfinished at 7-2. Singles play continued to be a success for the Seminoles as Chris Cloer defeated FAU's Mauricio Paiz 6-0, 6-3 while in the adjacent court, senior and co-captain Jonathas Sucupira defeated Florida Atlantic's J.P. Bounassar 6-0, 6-1. Next to finish came from court three as Sykut defeated FAU's Daniel Vardag 6-1, 6-3 clinching the Seminoles overall victory while on center court Abougzir defeated the Owl's Corey Smith 6-3, 6-0. Unifinished matches came from court two where Aubone took on FAU's Karol Szmurlo 6-1, 4-5 while fellow freshman Bradley Mixson ended the match early at 6-2, 2-5 with the Owl's Eddie Majcher. Florida State men's tennis return to Scott Speicher Tennis Center later today as they take on the Georgia State Panthers at 2:00 p.m. for doubles and completing the dual match with singles on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m. Later on Sunday, Florida State will compete in their final match of the weekend against the Furman Paladins. Match play will begin at 2:00 p.m.
