GREENSBORO, N.C. - Kiril Dimitrov from Duke has been named the season's first Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after defeating a pair of ranked opponents en route to capturing the singles title at the Duke Invitational over the weekend.
Dimitrov went 3-0 in singles action and tallied 30 points to capture the singles hardware at the school-hosted tournament. The junior from Sofia, Bulgaria, defeated No. 72 Damon Gooch of Elon in straight sets and upended No. 55 Jason Jung of Michigan 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. He also picked up a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over North Carolina's Benjamin Carlotti on Monday to wrap up tournament play.
In doubles, Dimitrov teamed with Reid Carleton for a 2-1 mark. The pair secured 8-6 victories over Elon's Chase Helpingstine and Alberto Rojas and North Carolina's Taylor Fogleman and Tristan Heinrich. The Blue Devil duo's lone loss came against Michigan's 23rd-ranked tandem of Jung and Mike Sroczynski.
The Blue Devils will remain at home for the next two weeks, returning to the courts this Saturday to host Elon at 6 p.m.
