Jan. 18, 2011
Hernandez won three straight matches to reach the singles finals, and lost only 17 games in the process, while beating players from Cal Poly, No. 6 UCLA and No. 32 Arizona in straight sets.
The 30th-ranked Hernandez opened with a 7-5, 1-0 (ret.) win over Cal Poly's Jordan Bridge. He then scored a 6-3, 7-6 win over UCLA's Alex Brigham and a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Arizona's Andre Vidaller. Hernandez was slated to face UNC teammate Brennan Boyajian in the title match, but was forced to withdraw due to a shoulder injury.
Hernandez combined with Boyajian to take the doubles title as they defeated Hugh Clarke and Alfredo Moreno of Pepperdine in the championship match, 8-4. The pair reached the final with an 8-3 win over UCLA's Brigham and Warren Hardie.
