ATHENS, Ga. -- Duke's Phillip King reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships singles bracket before falling to Virginia's Brian Vahaly in three sets on Saturday in Athens, Ga.

Earlier in the day, King defeated Oliver Maiberger of San Diego State, 6-4, 6-4. He then fell to Vahaly, 6-2, 1-6, 6-0.

A pair of Blue Devil seniors -- Andres Pedroso and Ramsey Smith -- lost in the round of 16. Pedroso suffered a three-set decision to Michael Kogan of Tulane, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, while Smith was defeated by South Carolina's Guilaume Legat, 7-6, 7-5.
