ATHENS, GA. - Phillip King, Andres Pedroso and Ramsey Smith each registered singles wins on Friday at the 2001 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships in Athens, Ga.

King defeated Purdue's Jason Marshall in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, while Smith used three sets to advance past Ohio State's Phil Metz, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Pedroso got past Georgia's Lesley Joseph, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

Duke's Marko Cerenko was eliminated from the singles bracket after suffering a three-set loss to Jean-Julien Rojer of UCLA, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6.

In doubles action, King and Smith fell to Marco Baron and Chris McDonald of Mississippi State, 7-6, 6-2.
