ATHENS, Ga. - Duke's duo of Doug Root/Ramsey Smith defeated Matt Amgwerd/Nic Dubey of New Mexico, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1. It was the last doubles match to finish in the round of 32 Thursday night in Athens.

The Blue Devils next face Rob Cheyne/Andy Scorteanu of Fresno State, who were upset winners earlier Thursday over top-seeded Jeff Morrison/Nathan Overholser of Floida. The Fresno State duo won in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4 over the Gators. Duke and Fresno State meet Friday in second round action.
