![]() Duke Defeats Hampton 4-0 In Men's Tennis First Round Action

DURHAM, N.C.---The fifth-seeded Duke University men's tennis blanked the Hampton Pirates, 4-0, in the first round of the 2001 NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament at the Duke Tennis Stadium in Durham, N.C.
The Blue Devils (22-3) advanced to the second round where they will take on Auburn/Rice. The match take place on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Duke Tennis Stadium with the winner advancing to the Sweet 16 in Athens, Ga. on May 19-May 22.
Duke quickly took the 1-0 lead as they took the doubles point with victories at the number one and three positions. The 22nd-ranked team of Phillip King and Ramsey Smith ousted Pyung Koo Lee/Tomas Ibler 8-1 at the number one slot while Yorke Allen and Mike Yani defeated Shaun Crichlow/Ladislav Rezac at the number three slot 8-5.
Alex Bose got things started for Duke at No. 5 singles as he ousted Iber 6-0, 6-0 in a match that only lasted 40 minutes. Duke continued to dominate Hampton (19-6) at the bottom of the lineup as Allen cruised by Amine Elouizzai 6-3, 6-1. 49th-ranked Andres Pedroso clinched the match for the Blue Devils as he posted a 6-2,6-3 victory over Glauco Nascimento at No. 3 singles. All other singles matches were abandoned once Duke clinched the victory.
