Men Tennis ACCtion: Saturday, March 28
March 28, 2009
Blue Devils Close Out Home Slate With 5-2 Win Over Maryland The match started outdoors with Duke claiming the doubles point on wins by Dylan Arnould and Reid Carleton (8-4) at No. 1 and David Holland and Jared Pinsky (8-6) at No. 2. About halfway through singles and two-and-a-half hours into the match the rain started to fall, forcing play indoors to the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. The only singles match to have finished outside was the No. 2 match. Arnould closed out his straight set win over Andrew Orban 6- 1, 6-3 just minutes before the chair umpires declared the courts were too wet for play. Arnould is now 2-0 when playing at the No. 2 spot and improved to 16-11 overall this season. He is now 4-2 in ACC play. Tar Heels Post Second Straight 7-0 Win The 42nd-ranked Tar Heels won every match played, extending their ACC individual match win streak to 18. Doubles play began with a lopsided victory in a No. 1 spot match between two top-60 pairs. Thirty-fourth ranked Clay Donato and Taylor Fogleman had no trouble with No. 59 Erik Kreutzer and Thomas Nolan in an 8-1 win. Andrew Crone, Luke Mojica, Brennan Boyajian and Zach Hunter followed with two 8-6 wins for the doubles sweep.
