Seminoles Win 5-2 Over Miami
In doubles senior Vahid Mirzadeh (Wellington, Fla.) and freshman Connor Smith (Tampa, Fla.) defeated the No. 60 pair of Christian Blocker and David Simon 8-1 on court one. The duo is now 8-2 for the season. Freshmen Andres Bucaro (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and Anderson Reed (Daphne, Ala.) increased their doubles record to 8-3 after winning 8-5 on court three against Ignacio Taboada and Waylon Chin.
After winning the doubles point, the team clinched the victory quickly winning the first three matches in singles. No. 69 Mirzadeh came off the courts first with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Blocker on court two. Reigning ACC Player of the Year No. 35 Jean-Yves Aubone, a native of Miami, won 6-2, 6-4 on court one against Carl Sundberg.
Clemson Defeats Central Florida 5-2
The Tigers are now 12-0 on the year while Central Florida falls to 5-3 this season. Clemson is ranked 45th nationally, while Central Florida is ranked 75th.
The 12-0 start is tied for the second best beginning of a tennis season in school history. The 1962 team also had a 12-0 record when starting that season. The 1969 team holds the school's record for the best start as that squad finished the season with a 16-0 record and won the ACC Championship for the first time in school history.
