No. 18 Seminoles Sting Yellow Jackets 5-2
The No. 18 Florida State men's team defeated No. 38 Georgia Tech this afternoon, Sunday February 21 at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center. The 5-2 victory was the Seminoles' fourth consecutive win over a ranked opponent. Florida State is now 7-1 overall and 2-0 in ACC play.

Paving the way for the Florida State victory was senior Vahid Mirzadeh (Wellington, Fla.) who won his singles and doubles match. The No. 77 ranked Mirzadeh, partnering with freshman Connor Smith (Tampa, Fla.), held their home court with a 9-8 (7-1) tiebreaker victory on doubles court one against Dean O'Brien and Eliot Potvin. Mirzadeh proceeded to dominate in singles on court two, defeating Magin Ortiga 6-1, 6-3. The senior has now won five straight singles matches with his only loss on the year coming in three sets to No. 20 ranked Marek Michalicka of Wisconsin.

Junior Clint Bowles (Tampa, Fla.) clinched the team match after battling Georgia Tech's O'Brien on court three. No. 56 Bowles won the first set but fell behind 4-1 in set number two before rallying to clinch the 6-3, 7-5 victory.

Wake Forest Concludes Weekend Play with 5-2 Victory over Rice
The 16th ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team continued their strong weekend performance with a 5-2 win against 23rd ranked Rice on Sunday afternoon. Wake Forest now improves to 5-1 on the season, while Rice drops to 5-3.

The 12th ranked doubles pair of Steve Forman and Iain Atkinson claimed the first victory on the day, as they defeated Rice's Bruno Rosa and Oscar Podlewski by a score of 8-3. Jon Wolff and Frank "Tripper" Carleton followed close behind with an 8-5 victory of their own at the number three doubles position. The number two doubles game was not finished since Wake Forest had already earned the doubles point with the two victories at the first and third positions.


 

 

In singles action, Forman was the first to claim a victory, as he defeated Podlewski in just under an hour. This was a complete turnaround from yesterday afternoon during which his singles match spanned nearly three and a half hours. Carleton also earned an impressive win on the day with a 6-4, 6-2 takedown of 16th ranked Bruno Rosa. At the fourth singles spot, Atkinson battled back in impressive fashion against Rice's Isamu Tachibana after falling behind 3-6 in the first set. In the second set Atkinson wasted no time in claiming the victory with a 7-1 tiebreaker win before finishing out the match with a 6-2 victory in the third set. 

Blue Devils Cruise to Third Straight Win
After a pair of losses had dropped the Duke men's tennis team to 2-2 on the season, they have since won three straight after going on the road for a 6-1 victory over No. 47 Virginia Commonwealth on Sunday in Richmond, Va.

Duke, ranked No. 21 in the latest ITA Tennis rankings, came away with victories in all three doubles contests and five of the six singles to improve to 5-2 overall this year.

The Blue Devils' three doubles teams were victorious with Alain Michel and Torsten Wietoska winning handily at the No. 3 spot, 8-4 to get them started. The No. 4 doubles team in the country, Reid Carleton and Henrique Cunha, clinched the doubles point with their 23rd win of the year, an 8-5 victory at No. 1. Dylan Arnould and David Holland completed the sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 2. 

No. 31 Miami Edges UCF for Third-Straight Win
Sophomore Ignacio Taboada rallied to lead the No. 31 University of Miami men’s tennis team past visiting UCF, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon during the second annual NCAA Funfest at Ashe-Buchholz Park in Miami.

The Hurricanes (4-2), winners of three straight, took the early 2-0 lead before the Knights won a pair of singles matches to tie the score at 2-all.

Miami’s top-flight tandem of Christian Blöcker and David Simon got the Hurricanes off to a strong start, knocking off UCF’s 24th ranked duo of Marc Rocafort and Blaze Schwartz, 8-4. UM’s Keith Crowley and Hector Nieto then clinched the doubles point for the second-straight match with the 9-7 victory at No. 2, improving to 4-0. 

Clemson Defeats The Citadel 6-1
Clemson won all six single matches in straight sets and defeated The Citadel 6-1 in a men's intercollegiate tennis match at Clemson, SC Sunday morning.

With the win, Clemson improves to 7-0 overall, while The Citadel falls to 0-4 this season. The Tigers are ranked 64th nationally according to the latest ITA poll.

Clemson junior, Kevin Galloway won his 10th single match of the year as he defeated David Orces of The Citadel 6-2, 6-2 at number three singles. Galloway is 10-6 overall in singles matches this season and 6-1 in dual matches.
