Tar Heel Tennis Team Aces UNC-Asheville

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 47th-ranked University of North Carolina men's tennis team won its fourth successive dual match of the 1999 season Saturday, defeating the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs 7-0 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.

Earlier in the day, the Tar Heels defeated the 49es of UNC-Charlotte 5-2 in a dual team match. Both matches were played indoors.

Carolina sophomore David Cheatwood, a Fayetteville, N.C. native, made his second career start at the #1 singles position, defeating Brandon Sharpe 6-3,6-2. Carolina's Bjorn Renken defeated Ivan Lalic at the #2 spot in three tough sets, 7-5, 1-6, 7-6. Senior co-captain Michael Grass gained a point for the Tar Heels by beating Asheville's Sammy Langton 6-2,6-1 in #3. Ben Elix, Chad Riley, and Aaron Breziner, numbers four, five and six respectively, each gave up only one game to their Bulldog opponents. All three Tar Heels won in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.

With the win over the Bulldogs, UNC improved to 4-0 on the season. UNC will be off one week before hosting ninth-ranked South Carolina next Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
