![]() Maryland Downs Georgetown, 5-2, in Spring Opener

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's tennis team opened the spring season Friday afternoon by defeating the Georgetown Hoyas, 5-2, in a non-conference match played at the Tennis Center in College Park. The Terps jumped out to a commanding 3-1 lead after capturing the doubles point and a pair of singles matches, then clinched the affair with Louis-Xavier Lavallee's 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Adam Gross at the No. 4 position. Senior Scott Fink and sophomore Boris Fetbroyt both posted wins for the Terrapins in singles. Fink defeated David Tillem in straight sets (6-2, 6-4) at the No. 5 position, while Fetbroyt defeated Kenneth Wong 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6. Fetbroyt helped Maryland clinch the doubles point by combining with freshman David Kwon on an 8-6 win over Georgetown's Anthony Tan and Will Lowell. Kwon also posted a win in singles, defeating Lowell 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 3 position. Georgetown (0-1) picked up two points with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Anthony Tan downed Andrew Orban 6-4, 6-2 and Jeffrey Schnell outlasted Nickolai Nielsen 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. The Terps travel to Philadelphia on Sunday to face Penn. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
