Seminoles Fall; Play At 2:00PM
After being postponed for thirty minutes due to rain earlier in the day, the Seminoles hit the courts for doubles play. The freshmen duo of Andres Bucaro (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and Anderson Reed (Daphne, Fla.) won on court three 8-6 against Wisconsin's duo of Michael Dierberger/Luke Rassow-Kantor. No. 31 Vahid Mirzadeh (Wellington, Fla.) and Connor Smith (Tampa, Fla.) fought hard against Wisconsin's No. 3 team of Moritz Baumann/ Marek Michalika but fell 9-8(7-4).
In singles play, Smith, a freshman, finished first for Florida State with a quick 6-2, 6-1 victory over Ricardo Martin on court four. This was the first win of three for the freshmen in singles. Reed came off the court with the next win for the Seminoles winning 7-5, 6-2 on court six over Billy Bertha. In the final victory for the Seminoles, Bucaro won on court five against Chris Freeman 6-3, 6-4.
Hokies drop 6-1 decision to No. 15 Illinois
The event features 60 teams playing in 15 regionals across the nation who will battle for the right to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships at the Boars Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va. The host team, No. 2 Virginia, awaits the 15 winners, in the finals which will take place Feb. 12-15.
Virginia Tech (1-1), ranked No. 27 in the ITA preseason national poll, lost both of the completed doubles matches to lose the first point, then dropped five of the six, tight singles contest.
