Clemson Defeats Elon 5-2

WILLIAMSBURG, VA - The Clemson Men's Tennis Team defeated Elon 5-2 in the first round of the William & Mary Men's Tennis Indoor Invitational on Friday at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center in Williamsburg, VA.

The Tigers will play William and Mary on Saturday for the Tournament Championship at 4:30 p.m. The Tigers are now 2-1 on the year. Elon is 0-2 this season. Clemson is ranked 60th nationally, while William and Mary is ranked 63rd. William and Mary defeated BYU 5-2 in the other match of the tournament. William & Mary is now 8-2 on the season. It is the best start to a season for the Tribe since the 2002 campaign.

Tech Tennis Tops San Diego State, 4-1, at ITA Kick-Off Weekend

WACO, Texas - The Georgia Tech men's tennis team notched two doubles and three singles wins to cruise to a 4-1 win over San Diego State (0-2) in the first round of the ITA National Team Indoor Qualifier Thursday in Waco, Texas. The Yellow Jackets (2-1) will face No. 7 Baylor Saturday at 4 p.m. CT at the Baylor Tennis Center.

The Jackets took control early in doubles play when the duo of Kevin King and Doug Kenny clinched the point with a tough 9-7 win over SDSU's Bartos Golas and Andre Feliz. Guillermo Gomez and Eliot Potvin struck first with an 8-3 win, but the Aztecs evened the match with an 8-4 victory by Achim Ceban and Giovanni Vaglietti over Ryan Smith and Miguel Muguruza before the King-Kenny heroics.

In singles play, King became the closer for the second time on the day. After freshman Dusan Miljevic and Gomez gave Tech a 3-1 lead with a pair of 6-2 victories, the Peachtree City, Ga. native sealed the match for Tech with a 6-4, 7-6 (3) thriller over San Diego State's Achim Ceban at the No. 2 position for the win.

Virginia Men’s Tennis Defeats Arkansas 7-0 ITA Indoor Opener

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 5 Virginia men’s tennis team began the defense of its ITA National Team Indoor crown with a 7-0 victory over No. 45 Arkansas in a first round qualifying match Friday night at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at the Boar’s Head Sports Club. The Cavaliers (5-0) will play No. 39 East Tennessee State in the second round on Saturday at 6 p.m. for a place in the 16-team field in Chicago next month.

Virginia opened the match by taking the doubles point. The team of Michael Shabaz (Fairfax, Va.) and Dominic Inglot (London, England) posted their second consecutive 8-0 victory by topping Tyler Tarnasky and Bradwin Williams at No. 2 doubles. Arkansas (0-1) drew even as Christopher Nott and Dmitry Lebedev defeated Drew Courtney (Clifton, Va.) and Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) 8-2 at No. 3 doubles, marking the Cavaliers’ first dual match doubles loss of the season. Seconds later the No. 3 ranked team of Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India) and Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.) clinched the opening point with their 8-4 win at No. 1 over 15th-ranked Blake Strode and Matt Hogan at No. 1 doubles.

No. 42 NC State Men's Tennis Falls to No. 15 Texas A&M

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 42 NC State men's tennis team fell, 5-1, to No. 15 Texas A&M on Friday, Jan. 30 in Gainesville, Fla. in the first round of the ITA Indoor Championships. Texas A&M won the doubles point, and then four singles matches to secure the victory. The Pack is now 3-2 on the season.

Austin Klores and Colin Hoover defeated junior Frideric Prandecki and sophomore David Chermak, 8-3, at No. 3, and senior Christian Welte and redshirt freshman Julian Sullivan fell to the No. 34 doubles team of Conor Pollock and Austin Krajicek, 8-3, at No. 1. Senior Jay Weinacker and freshman Jaime Pulgar did not finish their doubles match, but were down 6-3 to Marcus Lunt and Wil Spencer at No. 2.
