Virginia Scores 7-4 Win at Notre Dame
The No. 2 Virginia men’s tennis team remained undefeated on the season with a 7-4 victory at No. 30 Notre Dame Sunday. The Cavaliers (3-0) won their 63rd consecutive regular season match, while handing the Fighting Irish (1-1) their first loss of the year.

The match used an alternative scoring method agreed upon by both teams. The match consisted of 10 singles matches, each worth one point, and five doubles matches for one double point, for a total of 11 points.

Play began with the No. 7-10 singles matches where the Fighting Irish jumped out to a 3-1 lead. Philippe Oudshoorn (Apeldoorn, The Netherlands) defeated Tyler Davis 7-5, 6-3 at No. 7 singles, but Notre Dame posted wins at No. 8, No. 9 and No. 10 to take the early lead. 

Georgia Tech Knocks off No. 36 South Carolina, 6-1
The 43rd ranked Georgia Tech men's tennis team defeated No. 36 South Carolina, 6-1 in a battle of nationally-ranked teams on Sunday afternoon at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.

With the victory, Tech improved to 5-0 on the season, while South Carolina fell to 1-1 with the loss

Tech got things rolling in doubles action where they captured a the team point, as the team of Juan Spir and Miguel Muguruza clinched the point with a thrilling 8-6 win over South Carolina's Alexander Kostanov and Johannes Pulsfort at number three doubles. 

No. 52 NC State Upsets No. 33 Michgan 4-3
In what came down to the final match, Akash Gujarati defeated Chris Cha, 7-5, 6-2, to propel No. 52 NC State to the upset victory over No. 33 Michigan, 4-3.

The Pack who are young by experience standards, took down a team full of upperclassmen.

Michigan gained the first point of the day in doubles, which was decided in a tie-breaker of the last set. The tandem of Fernando Banos and Jaime Pulgar lost, 8-6, to Chris Madden and Cha. In a back-and-forth contest, Rob Lowe and Frideric Prandecki pulled NC State even, winning 9-8 (6) over Jason Jung and Evan King. The doubles point was decided when the duo of Dominic Hodgson and Dave Thomson lost to George Navas and Mike Srozynski, 9-8 (2).

Hokies win eight matches on final day of Virginia Tech Challenge
The Virginia Tech men’s tennis team returned to its winning ways after taking five of its eight singles matches in the final day of competition at the Virginia Tech Challenge. The Hokies also claimed three of their four doubles matches on the day. Junior Will Beck, who went 2-0 on the weekend, and sophomore Luka Somen, who went 3-0 in the Challenge, were named champions in their respective singles flights. Two doubles teams were also named champions as Somen and Corrado Degl' Incerti Tocci finished the weekend with a 2-1 record and Yoann Re and Sebastien Jacques went 3-0. Tech was joined in the event, being played at the Burrow-Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus, by players from Auburn, College of Charleston, Indiana and Harvard. Admission is free.

The format includes eight singles flights and four doubles flights with round-robin competition in all flights. There will be no team scoring in the event and winners in each flight will be determined by the following method: 1) won-loss record, 2) head to head, 3) total sets won and 4) total games won. Play begins on Saturday at 9 a.m. and Sunday at 8 a.m. with Tech in action Saturday at 2 p.m and Sunday at noon.
