Tech Downs Georgia Southern for Sunday Sweep
Georgia Tech easily won the doubles point, and Eliot Potvin, Dean O'Brien and Miguel Muguruza captured straight-set matches in singles to clinch the match as 43rd-ranked Georgia Tech completed a Sunday tennis sweep with a 5-2 win over Georgia Southern at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.

The Yellow Jackets, who scored a 6-1 win over No. 72 USC-Upstate earlier in the day, improved to 3-0 and host Wofford at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Tech made quick work of the Eagles in doubles, sweeping all three matches to win the point. Dusan Miljevic and Ryan Smith clinched the point with an 8-4 win at No. 3 after Miguel Muguruza and Juan Spir scored an 8-1 win at No. 2.

Jackets Down USC-Upstate, 6-1
Georgia Tech overcame the absence of its best player and losing the doubles point and defeated USC-Upstate, 6-1, Sunday afternoon in the first match of a double-header at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. The Yellow Jackets are to play Georgia Southern at 3 p.m.

The 43rd-ranked Yellow Jackets improved to 2-0 by winning the first four singles matches against the No. 72 Spartans, getting straight-set victories from freshman Juan Spir at No. 1, Dean O'Brien at No. 3 and Dusan Miljevic at No. 4.

Spir, a first-year player from Medellin, Colombia, moved up from No. 2 in the lineup after All-American Guillermo Gomez sprained an ankle in Friday's season opener, and downed Renzo Airaldo, 6-3, 7-5.

No. 52 NC State Defeats NCCU
During the second dual match of a double header on Sunday, Jan. 17, the NC State men's tennis team showed no signs of slowing down. The Wolfpack beat North Carolina Central, 7-0.

As with the previous match against Garder-Webb, the Pack took a 1-0 advantage following doubles play. Rob Lowe and Frideric Prandecki played as the No. 1 team, defeating Patrick Olobo and Jack Waissen, 8-4. The No. 2 duo of Dominic Hodgson and Dave Thomson had little trouble beating Trey Chatman and Alejandro Espitia, 8-1. David Chermak paired up with Fernando Banos to win 8-3, over Jose Fabara and Stephen Allsop.

Once singles play began, the Pack continued their dominance. Lowe beat Olobo in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Hodgson didn't have any signs of fatigue from his match earlier in the day, beating Waissen, 6-3, 6-1. D. Thomson notched another victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Fabara.
