2006 All-ACC Academic Men's Swimming Team Announced

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Eleven All-Atlantic Coast Conference performers highlight the inaugural All-ACC Academic Men's Swimming and Diving Team, as announced Friday by Commissioner John D. Swofford.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Florida State, Georgia Tech and North Carolina each placed seven student-athletes on the All-Academic squad. The Seminoles were led by All-ACC performers Paul Erben, Alex Kennon and Kyle Young. Kennon and Steve Roof earned All-America Honorable Mention for Florida State. Second team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Jason Howard headlines the Yellow Jacket contingent, while All-ACC performer Jon Van Assen paces the North Carolina group.
NC State and ACC champion Virginia both had six members on the team, with the Cavaliers sporting five All-ACC performers. Pat Mellors and Bryan Stahl also earned All-America Honorable Mention for Virginia. The Wolfpack was led by All-ACC and Honorable Mention All-American Dan Velez.
Clemson was next with five selections, including Joel Johnson, who earned All-ACC honors with a second-place finish in the 100 back at the ACC Championships. Maryland picked up four selections to the All-Academic team, while Boston College, Duke and Virginia Tech had one each to round out the field.
The inaugural All-Academic team includes five student-athletes that earned All-America Honorable Mention at the NCAA Championships and a pair of academic all-district performers.
