TOWSON, Md. (GoHeels.com) -Senior goalkeeper Scott Goodwin of the University of North Carolina leads the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men's Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Goodwin has been chosen as the winner of the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year award for the Division I Men's soccer team.

A biology major with a 3.95 G.P.A., Goodwin was named as the Capital One Academic All-America® of the Year in Division I men's soccer after leading the No. 5 Tar Heels (16-3-3) into the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Cup quarterfinals against Indiana on Friday, Nov. 30.

A native of Raleigh, N.C., Goodwin leads the nation in Goals Against Average (0.26) and ranks second in save percentage (.878). He has allowed just six goals, the fewest in the country, and has posted 17 shutouts, setting the UNC single season mark. His 17 shutouts are tied for the fifth-most in any season in NCAA history. Goodwin is UNC's career leader with 41 shutouts, the seventh most in NCAA history.


 

 

A Capital One Academic All-America® men's soccer second team selection in 2011, Goodwin has earned Dean's List honors every semester and is set to graduate in three-and-a-half years. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.
